If I make a donation, how do I get my tax receipt? Anyone who donates by PayPal or credit card will receive an email tax receipt as long as their mail address was included with the donation. Donations by check over $100.00 will receive a tax receipt by mail if a return address for the donation is known. Why should I donate to Universal Ministries? There are over 6, 000 children living on the streets of Guatemala City. More than 75,000 children have been identified as severely malnourished in Guatemala. This is as a result of ongoing poverty, which particularly affects children living in rural areas. Based in Guatemala City, the Universal Ministries Church ministers to the needs of the community throughout Guatemala, including indigeneous people as well as the street children and elderly homeless people. It's important to note that we do not only address the needs of the street children. Our door is open to all, regardless of their religious affiliation, or lack of one. Like many religious groups, our community is supported entirely with the donations of parishioners and friends. Your help is welcome. In the world across us if we go through deeply we can still find many starving children who are malnourished and under fed and are fighting hard for their survival. The reason can be any either flood has ruined their life or happen to be misfortunate to get any assistance. WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO? These days, whether it's in the form of e-mails, television or old-fashioned letters, the average person is overwhelmed with requests to help worthy non-profit organizations. Can I give you a targeted or restricted donation to be used something specific? Charities based in the United States are required to honor restrictions requested by donors. In other words if you specify your donation needs to be restricted for a specific use, we are based in Guatemala City, Central America, therefore, there is no restrictions. A year-end contribution to UM gives you the opportunity to select the amount of your deduction, to schedule the timing of your gift, and to determine the type of contribution you will make - options few other deductions provide. For example, you may choose to make your contribution in the form of tangible personal property, real estate or securities. In this way, you have the advantage of a deduction without affecting your cash on hand.
In general, you may deduct up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income for a charitable contribution. An excess deduction may be carried-over to the subsequent five tax years.
A gift of real estate enables you to deduct the fair market value of the property you contribute, provided you have held the property for longer than one year. You are allowed a deduction of up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income for the year in which you make the contribution; the amount in excess can be carried over and deducted for the next 5 years.
The amount of your deduction for a contribution of tangible personal property (items such as art, antiques, and the like) depends on the type of property contributed and how it will be used. In general, you will realize maximum tax savings if the contribution is one which can be used in a manner related to its charitable purpose.
